Abong (“we”) runs abongstays.com, where guests find and book transient houses, inns and campsites, and hosts list them. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, mobile number, profile photo and password (stored scrambled, never readable). If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from them.
- Bookings: the stays you hold and book, your dates and number of guests, payment receipts you upload, and messages about your booking.
- Hosts: your host name, listings, photos, rates, calendars, payout account details and QR codes, and documents you share for verification.
- Payments to Abong: when hosts buy credits, Pro or featured spots, PayMongo processes the payment. We receive the payment status and reference, never your card or bank login.
- Technical data: basic logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) to keep the site secure and working, and cookies needed to keep you signed in.
How we use it
- To run bookings: showing hosts who is coming, sharing contact details once a payment is confirmed, sending booking updates and reminders.
- To verify listings and payout accounts, prevent fraud and reused receipts, and settle disputes.
- To send the notifications you choose in Account settings (email, in-app and phone alerts).
- To improve Abong and keep it secure. We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
- Your host or guest: your name and photo are shown; your mobile number and check-in details are shared only after the host confirms your payment.
- Service providers who help us run Abong: our web host (Hostinger), email delivery, PayMongo for payments to Abong, Google and Facebook if you use them to sign in, and map providers (OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap) for listing maps.
- Authorities when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while it’s open. Booking and payment records are kept for as long as needed for disputes, tax and legal requirements, then deleted. When you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information except what we must keep by law.
Your rights
You can see and correct your details in Account settings, download a copy of your information, object to processing, or ask us to delete your data. See how to delete your data, or email hello@abongstays.com. If you believe we mishandled your data, you can complain to the National Privacy Commission.
Security
The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored scrambled; receipts and payout QR codes are visible only to the people involved in the booking and the Abong team. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and don’t share your sign-in code.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll tell you on the site or by email before the change takes effect.
